Teacher training at vocational schools for specialized bachelor's degree (M. Ed.)
At vocational schools, there has been a structural undersupply of teachers in various subject areas for years. The master's degree in teaching at vocational schools for bachelor's degree students is therefore aimed at people who have already completed their studies (bachelor's degree, master's degree or diploma) in the following subjects
- Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Nursing Science (from winter semester 2021/22)
- Social Pedagogy
have graduated and want to qualify for the teaching profession at vocational schools.
Study program and degree
The standard period of study is four semesters and the program ends with the academic degree Master of Education (M. Ed.).
The master's program is structured as follows
- into the Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik (VET),
- the didactics of the vocational specialization,
- a general education subject,
- a school internship in the professional specialty and in the general education subject as well as
- a Masterarbeit (master thesis).
With the master's degree, graduates are qualified to enter the preparatory service for the teaching profession at vocational schools, combined with a career authorization for the secondary level II.
Subject combinations
Prospective students can combine their professional specialization with seven teaching subjects: German, English, Protestant Religion, Computer Science, Catholic Religion, Islamic Religion, Mathematics or Physics.
Working fields
Electrical and metal engineering
Teachers with a vocational specialization in electrical or metal technology are employed not only at vocational schools, but also at vocational colleges, technical colleges, vocational high schools or even technical colleges. The largest type of vocational school is the vocational school, which, together with the training company, leads to completed vocational training in the dual system.
Nursing science
Teachers with the vocational specialization of nursing science primarily train nursing trainees in accordance with the old and new training and examination regulations in private vocational schools (nursing schools) and in state-organized vocational schools. In addition, they can teach in particular in the state schools in different school types, such as in the vocational high school or in other training professions in the health care sector. Likewise, it is possible to join as a lecturer in dual nursing studies or to work in further and continuing education.
Social Pedagogy
Teachers with the vocational specialization of social pedagogy primarily teach trainees in occupations whose training is organized on a full-time school basis, such as social assistants at vocational schools as well as curative education nurses and educators at technical schools.
